The Ultimate Snowboard Bucket List: 20 Experiences Every Snowboarder Should Try

Snowboarding is about more than ticking off resorts. It is about unforgettable days with friends, learning something new, and finding terrain that makes you feel completely alive. Over the years, I have been lucky enough to ride some incredible mountains around the world. Here are 20 experiences I think every snowboarder should consider adding to their bucket list. Some are approachable, some take serious training, and a few are ambitious dreams. The point is to keep exploring.

Heli-Snowboarding in Whistler

Taking a helicopter into the mountains near Whistler is an experience I will never forget. The flight itself is amazing, with snowy peaks stretching in every direction. Then you land, strap in, and ride huge untracked slopes. This is guided, remote terrain, so preparation, avalanche equipment and sound decisions matter as much as the powder.

Ride a Powder Day in Japan

Japan is famous for its light, deep snow. Niseko offers incredible tree riding, especially when a storm delivers fresh turns. Going with friends makes it even better. Plan your route, respect resort boundaries, and stay together in the trees. January is often a great month to look for those memorable powder days.

Snowboard a Volcano in Chile

Riding a volcano feels completely different from a typical resort day. At Corralco in Chile, the dramatic volcanic landscape makes every turn special. With appropriate conditions, experienced partners and local guidance, a volcano adventure can become one of the most unusual memories on your snowboard.

Challenge Yourself at Jackson Hole

Jackson Hole has some legendary steep terrain. Corbet's Couloir is famous for its intimidating entrance, and it is not something to attempt without the right skills, conditions and judgment. Even watching expert riders tackle it can be inspiring. A bucket list should motivate progression, not pressure anyone into dangerous terrain.

Summer Snowboarding at Zermatt

Imagine practicing park tricks with the Matterhorn in the background. The glacier above Zermatt, Switzerland, makes summer riding feel like a completely different sport. It is a great way to keep your skills sharp when most mountains have already melted. Check current glacier operations before planning a trip.

Teach a Friend to Snowboard

Not every bucket-list experience needs a plane ticket. Helping a friend learn their first turns can be incredibly rewarding. Start on beginner terrain, explain the basics patiently, and celebrate the little wins. Watching someone discover the feeling of sliding down a mountain is a reminder of why we love this sport.

Ride DOA at Whistler Blackcomb

The DOA area on Blackcomb is a serious backcountry-style challenge with narrow terrain and exposed features. It requires advanced ability, avalanche knowledge, a suitable partner and careful planning. For skilled riders, exploring iconic technical terrain responsibly can be a huge personal milestone.

Learn to Ride Switch and Go Upside Down

Learning to ride switch opens up a whole new side of snowboarding. If you want to progress further, flips and inverted tricks are another goal entirely. Start with qualified coaching and controlled training environments such as trampolines or airbags. Build skills gradually before bringing new tricks onto snow.

Hike Mount Yotei in Japan

Mount Yotei rises above the Niseko region and makes an unforgettable backdrop. A summit or backcountry tour is a major mountain objective rather than a casual resort lap. Weather, navigation, avalanche conditions and fitness all matter. With proper planning and experienced guidance, the journey itself can be as memorable as the descent.

Experience Bottomless Powder with Friends

Some of my favorite snowboarding memories are not about a famous destination at all. They are about waking up to a huge snowfall and sharing perfect turns with good friends. Choose terrain that matches everyone's ability, communicate your plan, and keep an eye on each other. Those days are hard to beat.

Snowboard in Alaska

Alaska feels wild in a way that is difficult to describe. A guided heli-snowboarding trip can combine spectacular scenery with incredible snow and terrain. I have ridden with the Chugach guides, and the scale of the mountains left a lasting impression. It is expensive, but for experienced riders it can be a once-in-a-lifetime adventure.

Ride the Christmas Chute at Alyeska

Alyeska has some dramatic steep terrain, including the Christmas Chute. It is a challenging objective that demands strong riding skills and careful assessment of current conditions. The setting is spectacular, and the long descent can be unforgettable when everything lines up safely.

Snowboard at Mount Hood in Summer

Mount Hood, Oregon, is one of my favorite summer snowboard destinations. Timberline offers a chance to ride when most people are thinking about beaches. The parks, mountain views and summer camp atmosphere make it special. I have spent time at High Cascade, and the community is a big part of what makes Hood worth visiting.

Ride the KT-22 Chair at Palisades Tahoe

On a powder day, the KT-22 chair at Palisades Tahoe can deliver some incredible runs. The terrain is challenging and the views are amazing. I remember riding it with friends after a big storm and finding fresh snow all around the mountain. It is the kind of chairlift you remember long after the trip.

Explore Broken Arrow at Palisades

Broken Arrow is another memorable part of Palisades Tahoe. For advanced riders, the area's natural features and varied lines can make for creative riding. Take time to scout entrances, watch conditions and choose an appropriate route rather than simply following tracks into unfamiliar terrain.

Ride Mammoth in Spring

Mammoth Mountain is excellent in winter, but spring has its own magic. Longer days, terrain parks, natural features and softer afternoon snow make it a fun time to visit. I love how you can mix park laps with cruising and exploring the mountain. It is a great destination for riders who want variety.

Visit Gulmarg in Kashmir

Gulmarg in India is one of the most remarkable places I have snowboarded. The huge mountains, deep snow and hospitality of the local people make the trip feel like a true adventure. It is essential to use appropriate local guides and make careful decisions about terrain and avalanche conditions.

Ride the Marte Chair in Argentina

The Marte chair at Las Leñas gives access to legendary steep terrain when conditions and operations allow. A good snow day there can be unforgettable. Bring the skills and safety equipment appropriate for your route, and check local access requirements. It is a dream destination for adventurous, experienced snowboarders.

Explore the Backcountry at Cerro Catedral

Cerro Catedral near Bariloche, Argentina, has stunning scenery and varied backcountry terrain. The mountain views can feel almost like a miniature Alaska. I loved the atmosphere and the sense of discovery. As with any backcountry destination, work with qualified local professionals and do not treat lift access as a guarantee of safety.

Ride Delirium Dive at Sunshine Village

Delirium Dive at Sunshine Village in Canada is an unforgettable freeride experience. The terrain is steep, the snow can be incredible, and the views are spectacular. Access has specific avalanche-safety requirements. Check current rules, carry the required equipment, and ride only with the training and partners needed for the conditions.

Make Your Own Snowboard Bucket List

Your list does not have to look like mine. Maybe your dream is to land your first 180, ride your first powder day, visit another country or simply introduce a friend to the sport. Pick experiences that excite you and match your ability. Keep learning, stay safe, and enjoy the journey. Let me know which adventure you would add next.
